Remembrance Day

So even though this blog is for Melissa and I both I never blog anything because she's usually on top of it. But November 11 has always been a very important day to me. I love how we still take the time to remember all those who fought for our freedom. We went to Cranbrook to see our brother-in-law march in the ceremony so I thought I woud bring my camera along to help us keep the memories alive. During the moment of silent today everyone was quiet except for these two little girls that were running around laughing having so much fun just being little girls. I'm sure many people were upset these girls were so loud but it actually made me think that because of the many men and women that served we have the freedom that we have and those little girls can run around and laugh and just be little kids. I am so thankful to be Canadian! I hope you enjoy the photos

Pants on fire!

So a couple weeks ago I was picking out some clothes for Kyle and I to wear for our family pictures we were getting. I wanted them to kinda match and look nice togther. Kyle was not into picking so I was looking in our closet for a long time and there is a light at the top of our closet that I had on so I could see better. Anyways right when we finally picked I turned to Kyle and said do you smell something burning? He said no so I just went on with whatever I was doing...it was only a couple minutes later I asked him again, "are you sure you don't smell anything burning?" He said no again. Anyways to make a long story short I smelt it again and I knew forsure that there was something wrong and I needed to find out where that smell was coming from because I knew it was a burning smell. So I was running all over the house trying to pin point where the smell was coming from and I all of a sudden had the weirdest feeling come over me and it said look in the closet. As soon as I got that thought in my head I ran to the closet and looked up at the light. A pair of Kyle's work pants was up against the light and the light had gotten so hot it started to burn a hole right through them. I grabbed them and I saw that it had already bruned a hole through 2 layers of the folded pants! I went to call my mom to tell her the crazy news when kyle said, "Throw those pants outside they stink!" Which they really did haha but as soon as he threw them outside they seriously spontaneously combusted into flames!! It was crazy! Well here are some pictures! Needless to say we no longer have a light bulb in our closet ahha!

The burnt lightbulb!

So here are 2 of the wedding cakes I was hired to do this summer! The other one that there is no picture of was for my sister-in-law but for some reason it won't let me load it onto blogger! I have been trying and trying and that is what they are late ebing put up but I have decided that for now I will post these and when I FINALLY figure out what the problem is I will post the other one! I really wish it would work because hte other one was beautiful!!

This was the first wedding cake I did with buttercream icing! I was really nervous about betting it totally smooth but I think it turned out great!!

This one was small but super cute! I love these type of customer when they tell me the size but let me do whatever I want :) Also these pink flowers I grew in my garden this year from seed!! I don't usually do that but I just loved the bright pink color!!

My New Patio Set!!!

I love my new patio set!! Hal and Donell (Kyle's parents) bought it for us as an anniversary present and they decided to do something big as a special thankyou for helping so much with Jill's wedding!! I couldn't believe it when they gave it to us!! We just got it on Friday night! I put it together today...I know it is the end of the summer but I had to see it set up :) They are deep chairs and the cushions are so comfy!!! It looks so good on my deck to :) Jill and Brandon also got us the matching swing to match which I was so surprised! I almost felt a little bad because I felt like they shouldn't be buying us gifts...they are ones who just got married haha but it was a very nice surprise! I didn't put the swing together, I might not put it up this year either. I might just wait till next spring!

Exciting News!

So I have always thought it would be cool to do cakes as a mini side business but with my real job and all my other hobbies and just life I just always talk myself out of it and say, "No Liss it will just stress you out and it won't be fun. Try to keep the fun in the work!" So I haven't ever tried to pursue anything. But over the last couple years I have done some thing here and there for family and I have done a couple wedding cakes for some friends which I really like. Anyways as of right now I have a wedding cake booked for Friday August 20th, another wedding cake booked for Saturday August 21st and another one booked for Saturday August 28th. And the crazy part about it is all of these people came to me, I had nothing to do with it! It will be crazy I know but I am not working now and so I have a lot of time to prepare slowly and make sure I have time to have fun during it all :) I am so excited... maybe I my little cake business will actually become something someday haha! No not really...I think I like just doing it casually out of my home! And once work starts back up in September I know I won't have much time for it again but I guess summer comes every year and it seems that is the crazy times for weddings and with my job I am always off work in the summer:) Maybe I will just call it a summer job where I can work my own hours whenever I want :) Thats the best kind right?

Also I got booked for a little girls birthday party in October already! And I have already come up with the cutest idea and the mom loves it so I will have to make sure to post a picture when the time comes!! I guess thats how I have attracted people, I put up pictures of everything I have done and people like it so they contact me :) I am so excited! Wish me luck in the next couple weeks! Its going to be great!!!!

This one is for Anutie Gerri, Kelly and Kenny!!

I just had to put a picture up for these girls! For my birthday they got me this doughnut cake pan from William Sonoma. (the best cooking store in the world haha) A couple days after my birthday the campground people had a August long weekend party and it was a big get together for everyone. There was tons of food and a boat race in the creek; it was a fun day! Anyways I decided it was a perfect oppourtunity to try out my newest cake and see what reviews I got back. Anyways everybody loved it and I thought it looked great for my first try :)
In the words of little Brookey, "MMMMM Doughnut!!" That is what she said when she watched me open the gift haha!

My Birthday!

I know I haven't done much blogging for a while but I have been off on holidays! Kyle and I are going on an anniversary trip today but I thought I would post something before I left and than when I come home I will have to post about my big holiday we just went on! But it was just my birthday on July 25th and I turned 21! Kyle and Scott said we should all go to Vegas and go gambling haha. Instead this is what I did!
Kyle planned a BBQ at our house with all his family. The best part was I didn't have to cook anything or clean up anything! But this is the cake Emilee and her mom Rylee made me for my Birthday!! Very Yummy!
We have these friends Lloyd and Shirley and whenever it is one of our birthdays the other couple takes them out for dinner and pays! So Lloyd and Shirley took Kyle and I out for my birthday and I choose to go to Marco Polo! I was really wanting some chinese food :) But before dinner we planned on going golfing. We went to the Cranbrook golf course which turned out to be great! I learned how to hit my driver really good and it was kinda an overcast day so we didn't melt in the sun!!

Kyle right about to swing!

Happy 4th of July!!

Sorry this is so belated!! But you know me...I try to be up on things but for some reason it just doesn't seem to happen all the time :) Anyways here are a few picture of 4th of July!!
Everyone at our 4th of July picnic!! We decided we needed to get out of the house so we planned a picnic and little Logan went for one of his first walks :)
Mindy and baby Logan!
I couldn't help myself so I made 4th of July cupcakes!! Mindy didn't really have much cake things so I had to just use ziplock bags as piping bags and just a plan old knife haha

Logan James Newell

This is our new beautiful Logan! My sister Mindy had a baby boy on June 25th and my Dad and sister Jamie got in the car and drove all the way down to Orew, Utah the very next day!! We were soooo excited to meet him! He was a week over due so we were all waiting for that phone call from my mom saying, "HE IS COMING!!" I never knew what it felt like to instantly love someone without even knowing them but the second I held that baby boy I knew what it felt like!! I am sure I will feel it even stronger when I have my own children too!! I think he is the cutest and most perfect thing ever! Even if there was something funny about him I don't think I would even notice. He has his Aunties heart thats for sure :)
Beautiful wide eyed Logan!!!
First Day home from the hospital! I love this chubby cheeks!!
